Frequency Earth Bonus: Idiomatic

We’re all hoping you had a spoooooky Thanksgiving, as ever, but this week we got you a little something to wash down all those scary ghost stories of Christmases long long ago: It’s the pilot episode of a new stage show I’m making called Idiomatic. It’s a panel show in the UK tradition (think QI, or maybe for an American audience, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me) and it’s about words and language and where phrases come from.

My feeling is that if there were ever a show that had the credit in the opening titles “based on the stand-up of Rob Schultz,” it would not be a sitcom, it would be this. And while I’m [REMORSEFUL] that the quality of the recording isn’t up the standard that Frequency Earth listeners (or really, anyone) might be accustomed to, I think that the game played really well and that we’ll continue doing the show in the new year, so I’ve got until then to figure it out.

If you like this sort of thing, or anything we do, let us know. In a lot of ways, I think a nerdy show about etymology is one of the more commercials projects I’ve put together in a while.

Frequency Earth Bonus: Better Radio Live

Although we’ve been writing and recording material for Season 2 for a little while now, you won’t get to hear it until next year. I think what we’re doing is saving up another whole season that we can release week by week, because I’m guessing that people like that, and we’ve had no feedback to the contrary.

Between now and then, we'll be handing out a little bit of extra material we’ve squirreled away for the winter. Your Thanksgiving morsel? This recording of our live “best-of season one” show, performed at the mysterious Dangerfield’s 2 in Frogtown, California.

This episode features .G. Maximilian Zarou (below), Anne Freiermuth, Fletcher Kauffman, Tim Greer, and Russell Anderson mixing all of the sound effects and music and pre-recorded drop-ins in real time in front of our live studio audience.

Frequency Earth 110: Ghost & The Machine

We did it! We put up a fantastic live show on Saturday and here is the season finale of Frequency Earth! What an accomplishment! And now for a nice long rest of many years…

Wait! No! We’re still making season 2! We’ll have some gap weeks coming up, and some bonus items to throw into the feed to make the wait more bearable. Until then, I’m extremely happy that we’ve finally put a proper cap on this project, and extremely pleased that people are listening to them. Now I just need to take a moment to get caught up on other projects

Frequency Earth 109: Election Season

Big day. Big big day! As we re-release our original series, we’ve been looking forward to transmitting episodes 9 and 10, because they were never released. The scenes aboard the ship were recorded, the transmissions were written, and then for reasons unknown to me now, not all of the transmissions were taped and the shows went on a shelf.

In the run up to writing and recording series 2, we also recorded the missing elements from series 1, using the scripts we had prepared at the time. I don’t think Iron Man 2 had hit theaters yet by the time the script for our scene ‘Doctor Strange’ was written.

Today’s episode features old friends and new, and is in some ways the first ‘new’ episode of the run. Enjoy!

Frequency Earth 108: Robotic Arms

Another one of our pipe dreams in creating this show was that in knowing we had all of electronic media history to play in, we could tune into the other shows our friends were making. We wanted to do a broadcast involving the characters of Doc Mock’s Movie Mausoleum, we traded a dozen emails with the pre-televised Birthday Boys, we made a few gentlemanly passes at the Alexes of Smug Rock Nation. The only one that didn’t turn into a smoldering hole in our production calendar was Diani & Devine, whose Wedding Witch graces episode 108.

Back to School is also an interesting segment because I had nothing to do with it, no input, I just heard it as a final piece in the show. I don’t think we can say that about anything else so far. Oh, except for all the Z-Rob. We once deep-sixed a Z-Rob segment for taking aim at one of our fans, who wrote in to say she didn’t appreciate all the Z-Rob.

Enough reminiscing about the past, let us reminisce of the future! Join us on 9/29 for our live taping at the Pack Theater! We’ll be giving you a preview of our new series, and an opportunity to be a part of the show!
